EMBox Lab

The Anyfields technology is an antenna measurement solution based on infrared thermography. Each system integrates four core components: a mini anechoic chamber that ensures a clean and controlled electromagnetic environment for the measurement, an absorbing film onto which the antenna radiates, a high-resolution infrared camera that captures the resulting thermal image, and a dedicated software suite that transforms the raw thermal images into quantitative, exploitable measurement data. Powered by advanced signal processing algorithms, this software converts the captured images into calibrated electric field maps and extracts key RF performance parameters such as gain, radiation patterns or HPBW. Together, these elements deliver a complete, self-contained measurement setup.

When the antenna under test radiates onto the absorbing film, the electromagnetic energy is converted into heat, causing the film to warm up locally according to the antenna’s radiation pattern. The infrared camera then captures a high-definition thermal image of the film, where each pixel corresponds to an individual measurement point, delivering up to 300,000 data points in a single shot. Advanced data processing algorithms then convert this thermal image into a calibrated electric field map, providing instant visual diagnostics of the antenna’s radiation behavior.

Yes. The Anyfields technology was developed from over 20 years of research conducted at ONERA, the French Aerospace Lab, one of France’s leading public research institutions. It is protected by multiple patents, originally filed by ONERA and exclusively licensed to Anyfields, with additional proprietary patents filed by the company itself. This multi-patented foundation reflects the depth of the scientific and engineering work behind the technology.

The EMBox Lab is an educational antenna measurement tool. It measure antennas to obtain visual E-Field maps of antenna radiation, making electromagnetic phenomena and RF concepts directly observable — helping students move from abstract theory to tangible, real-world understanding.

The EMBox Lab is an educational demonstration tool designed for teachers, researchers, and their students. It is adapted for both interactive lectures and practical lab sessions. For first-year students, it provides a clear visual understanding of radiation and field behavior. Advanced students can use it to characterize antennas, visualize hot spots through mapping, and measure key parameters such as gain, radiation patterns, and reflection coefficients.

The EMBox Lab is based on the Anyfields Technology based on the infrared thermography, enabling one click measurement and high-definition visualization of antenna radiation with a single click for instant performance diagnostics.

The software enables to export all measurement datasets in differents formats : csv, json, png. Export data format can be adapted to user needs if required.

Traditional teaching methods, heavy on theory and light on practical application, often fail to resonate with students. Without practical demonstrations, abstract concepts like radiation, impedance, and wave propagation remain difficult to grasp. The EMBox Lab bridges this gap: by combining theoretical instruction with direct measurement and visualization, the tool is particularly relevant for courses related to radio frequencies and antennas. Its compact format, user-friendly interface, and quick setup make it suitable for live demos during lecture and also for integration into university laboratory sessions.

These are two very different tools using two different measurement approaches and technologies. A VNA measures S-parameters (such as S11 for return loss and S21 for transmission) at specific ports, it gives precise numerical data but no spatial visualization of the field. The EMBox Lab, by contrast, makes electromagnetic fields visible in high definition, capturing up to 300,000 measuring points in a single shot, providing a visual representation of how the antenna radiates. It is not a replacement for a VNA but a complementary tool focused on education, field visualization, and rapid diagnostics rather than precise parametric characterization.

The EMBox Lab served as a complete radiofrequency test and measurement setup during classroom sessions, enabling the visualisation of radiation patterns and electromagnetic behavior. The fast measurement process allowed several configurations to be analyzed within one class session, enabling students to easily compare antennas and observe differences in radiation behavior.  A starter pack including turnkey lab exercises and 3 antennas is included anyfields, making it easy to get started immediately.

Students can use the system to explore the radiation variation by changing the measurement distance or frequency, the behavior of electromagnetic fields when power is transmitted, the graphical representation of gain and HPBW, and the validation by comparing the measurement with a simulation. Measurable parameters include E Field values, gain, radiation patterns, reflection coefficients, and near-field/far-field distributions.

Simulations (using tools like CST, HFSS, or FEKO) are mathematical models of antenna behavior, they are fast and flexible but based on assumptions and idealized conditions. A measurement with the EMBox Lab captures the real physical behavior of an actual antenna. Students can design an antenna in simulation and then upload it with EMSoft to compare the results with real  ANYFIELDS measurements. These will indeed reveal manufacturing imperfections, environmental effects, and deviations from the theoretical model. Seeing the field establish in real time is a great add on to antenna simulation and greatly enhances comprehension anyfields in a way that no simulation alone can achieve.

The EMBox XL is a integrated tool designed for instant antenna radiation functional testing in industrial environments. Developed to streamline and accelerate antenna measurement processes, it brings simplicity, speed, and flexibility to antenna performance verification. Embedding ANYFIELDS measurement techology, It enables high-definition measurement of electromagnetic radiation and provides fast diagnostics and pre-characterization, regardless of the operating frequency.

For all players in the antenna industry, measurement is a critical subject during the global process of development, production, assembly, testing and integration phases of their systems.
EMBox XL is made for antenna and RF researchers, antenna designers and manufacturers, antennas integrators. Its versatility in terms of antenna tested makes it the perfect fit for all applications in various key markets: space, defence, telecommunication, IOT, transportation, etc.

EMBox XL can measure any antenna system that can fit in its 80x80x80 measurement chamber at any frequency. It measures passive and active antennas. It measures standalone and integrated antennas. Any antenna technology (patches, horns, yagis, spirals, arrays, metasurfaces…) can be measured in EMBox XL.

Yes EMBox XL can measure active antennas that includes their own RF chain.
Its HD surface sensor makes it the perfect fit for complex multielement antenna (phased array, transmit arrays, …) diagnostics. It allows instant near field measurement of all radiative element in one snapshot for an instant diagnostic and debugging.
It can also measure and analyse beam formation for quick pattern validation.

Yes thanks to its larger size, EMBox XL can fit and measure antenna embbeded on their host platform without dismantling it. It is particularly suited for real radiation performance testing and validation of antenna integrated on nanosatellites , or other wireless devices.

EMBox XL is compatible with all polarization types : linear (horizontal, vertical, or slant), circular (LHCP/RHCP), and elliptical – and measures the total radiated electric field intensity deposited on the absorbing film

Measurement chain (RFBox, Surface Sensor, measurement software back end) are fully calibrated during production using reference antennas. Our measurement technology is non invasive and doesnt need calibration for each measurement. Every year, we recommend to check the system calibration using reference antennas.

EMBox XL advanced antenna mounting system allows antenna rotation for measurement at different angles and secondary lobes measurement when needed.
